Realistic 3D modelling - Sawed Wood profiles
- Status: Closed
- Prize: $100

Contest Brief
We are searching for a 3d designer.
For the first project/contest, we challange you first with some simpler designs.
The task is to create 4 realistic 3d images of wood planks that have 'finger jointed' profiles.
I have provided 4 images showing the profile types = profile being the 'form' of the jagged edges that fit 2 pieces of wood together.
To understand better what you are creating, the images will be used to represent the 'result' of a new machine that saws and glues/connects short wooden boards resulting in long, standard board to up to 6m.
The images will be presented on walls of a 'trade show stand' and used to let the potential customers know Immediately what the machine produces. (we will provide also a mockup of where/how the images will be used).
We have little time, but as understood, this is a very 'simple & easy' task for a 3d designer, please correct me if im wrong ;-)
The task/requirements:
Images should be realistic, the wood not too dark.
Best, but not mandatory is that the images show uniek wood types/colors
Please deliver each with AND without a 'background' where it looks like they are laying on a (contrasting) wooden or white table top (such as you see in images supplied). Glued(connected) and not-glued versions of each if not to much trouble.
If you have other ideas, I am open to them...
Your own creativity is important - let me see what you got! :)
The images should be large and high res for use on printed walls.
Quick & dirty = We need them ASAP!
Any questions or suggestions are WELCOME...
I look forward to finding our new 3D Partner!
Good luck!
------ Just to make clear ----- -
End result will be 4 different sawed profile examples.... each with atleast 4 variations.
The unglued is the main, where the variations are simple tweeks (unglued, glued/closed - standalone/with nice 'background'... )
Different woodtypes/colors appreciated....
The next task is already being prepared! Yeah!
==========================
Ok everbody, I first want to thank everyone for thier entries.... we are still in W OW mode... but are trying to make honest decisions.
Below is specifications for the wood profiles, many have requested the details... I cannot EXPECT you to make the changes since they were not in the original documentations - a well known scenerio of client knowing details AFTER they let us work... But if it is not too much trouble, it will make our decisions much more easier.
Things we are focusing on to make our decision...
- How realistic the images look - real wood
- Presentation creativity
- Clarity and correctness of wood profile forms
I have uploaded a visual of the following specifications:
Details sawed profiles
100(b) x 45mm(h) = profiel: #1
80(b) x 20mm(h) = profiel: #2
200(b) x 12mm(h) = profiel: #3
250(b) x 45mm(h) = profiel: #4

Hi Everyone, It has been a very hard choice here.
I want to say that we wish we could award everyone but unfortunely that is not possible.
We do want to name the top 5 contestants:
emregoktay
fb54fb2fd55a1265
Fibonacchi2
luboscernak
giariham
We find the entries from these contestants presented
the most realistic but also creative talent.
Again, we had to make choices and thus everyone has shown great talent and initiative!
Thank you!
With this being said, I will post the winner.
If possible and we come to an agreement of price, we will attempt to purchase more images/entries.
We look forward to seeing more work from you all and are preparing the next project/contest!
Sincerely,

Maam, when I make wooden planks, you can smell the wood how realistic they are... but I'm available only from Tuesday. If this contest will still be active, I'll gladly join in. In the meantime check out how I do everything in 3d, you'll understand why I don't have time right now.

Not sure what you are asking ;-)
The goal of task is to produce images that clarify what the machine is capable of - which is different sawing profiles...- 11 years ago
