Implement DataFX for JavaFX App

I'm building a JavaFX application that needs to integrate with a RESTful API to download a list of items. I'm trying to use DataFX and the JsonConverter, but I'm getting an error: "Can not instantiate value of type [simple type, class ...] from JSON integral number; no single-int-arg constructor/factory method"
But part of this project is also to wire the results of the DataFX provider so that I can add Buttons to a TilePane.
