Topic-Caste system and gender inequality Today in our society, caste system and gender inequality are two most common evil prevailing. People's directly or indirectly related to it. The best examples for this can we seen in political representation of the nation. People belonging to higher section get the maximum opportunity to fulfill their wishes and meet their both ends. In spite of being a developed or developing country, people's still practice this unhumanistic social evil which is considered as one of the biggest curse for the modern generation. In few areas people judge the others by the caste they belong bt not by the talent which they possess; they are simply biased, not realistic. At one hand they pretend to be educated and at other practices the social evils like caste system, sati, polygamy , female foeticide, female infanticide, gender inequality, racism etc. All society have some kind of social inequality and some form of division of labour. Caste system leads to an unexpected outcome that is untouchability which despite of constitutional prohibition has not ended completely. Even now most people marry within their own caste or tribe and didn't eat with members from other castes group. As same the gender division tends to be understood as natural and unchangeable. However it is not based on biology but on social expectations and stereotypes. Boys and girls are brought up to believe that the main responsibility of women is house work and bringing up children. In most families, women do all work inside the home such as cooking, cleaning, washing clothes etc and men do all the work outside the home. Women constitute half of the humanity, their role in public life specially politics is minimal in most societies. We find women working as scientists, doctors, engineers etc which were earlier not regarded suitable for women. In some parts of the world for example Sweden, Norway and Finland the participation of women in public life is very high. Different peoples have different perception of an ideal women. As for the fashion industry it must be an ideal beauty, for the prospective in- laws it is an ideal bride with a lot of dowry, and for the society an ideal house wife doing all the household works. The most important thing for a nation is to cope up with the social problems which may lead to instability or even a mass movement. Many political leaders and social reformers like Jotiba Phule, Gandhiji, [login to view URL] and Periyar Ramaswami, Raja Rammohan Roy advocated and worked to establish a society where socio-economic problem does not prevail. Few reformers presented their views by writing novels, dramas, poems like Rabindranath tagore wrote 'where the mind is without fear and the head is held high, where knowledge is free, where the world has not being broken up into fragments by narrow domestic wall, where the words come out from the depth of truth.... ' So for maintaining the dignity of our motherland we must understand the saying "United we stand, divided we fall". We should spread the message of fraternity or brotherhood as well as equality for the well being of ours and our society. That's what life is meant for.
