Project to obfuscate and merge visual studio vbnet project exe and dll's into a single exe that is obfuscated but clears an antivirus scan. Inno Script is being used to create the install exe for the application. I understand there is no perfect way to protect the code so am relying on your experience to set a good standard that does not dramatically impact performance. As a minimum the system should have variable and string obfuscation. Preferably it will also purge any unused functions as there is one common dll shared across multiple applications that has the vast majority of the code I want protected. The system must be freeware and quick to run so not require setting up each time. A batch file run within a folder that contains the relevant files or similar would be perfect. I have been having a play with ConfuserEx but have been having issues with antivirus deleting it. I believe this is because they cannot scan the file.

So if your using 'Visual Studio', which it appears you are. Because the project says skills 'C#, VB.NET'. Why not use the 'Dotfuscator' that comes with it...? Which version of 'Visual Studio' do you have? 2013, 2015? Before I train you how to use it. I'll be quiet, if I'm going to get paid anything. I can't remember If I had to pay anything for it. I think it might be a free community edition that works just fine. For our commercial project, I had to change some settings sometimes. Or exclude some parts. But it is workable. But there are steps you must follow...
