Design a circuit that will detect either a standard electric utility sine wave or a modified sine wave that would come from a generator. We need to be able to determine if we are on generator power (modified sine wave) or utility power (standard sine wave) let me know how cost and lead time

Detecting mod sine is very simple. I should know more, however. How do you want to have it indicated? LED or signal to some other device should be implemented?

Hello Dear, We have vast experience in embedded systems design. Your problem is quite simple. We have several years of experience designing circuits to detect power quality. The modified Sine wave would have harmonics and can be easily detected fron the THD factir. Usually METERING ICs like ADE7755 can detect true Vrms along with upto 21 harmonics. Hello! I am Pranav, from India. What you need in order to determine the shape of a wave is DSP (Digital Signal Processing). Basically you'd be using an ADC (analog to digital converter), and then feed the digital values to a microcontroller running the DSP algorithm to figure out what the wave looks like. This would be a fairly low cost project. If you are looking to produce just a one-off project, you can use off the shelf development tools and save time, otherwise I can design a product for you that can do the same. As a fair idea, the standard off-the-shelf dev tools route may cost you about 40 - 60 USD in parts, whereas a marketable product would cost within 10USD in 1000ish quantity. I am a hardware developer basically, so I would be a great person to handle the design task for a marketable product if you'd like to go that route. I would require about 3 days to make the circuit and PCB design. Manufacturing in China generally takes about a week. Firmware development may take up to 2 - 3 days. My working rate is 25 USD per day, for which I am pretty proficient with what I do. Let me know what you think about it. Regards, Pranav

You are looking for LC filter (band stop) when there is AC 60hz there is no signal past filter when modified AC there are high order signals

So you need a sine wave or modified sine wave detector. OK, I can make it easily using microcontroller. I'll use PIC microcontroller. If you ask, I'll add a LCD or any other type of indication for mains power or generator power indication.
