Memory Card LCD character display

Hello! This is just part of a bigger pilot project i wished to implement at my dads pharma store. The idea is to keep track of expiry and not having to rely on our memory and to check physically the dates. Also, i like electronics project however lack required skills. My Requirement: What i am looking for is a system that allows me to scroll through text files stored on an SD card. I am planning to use 20x3 LCD character display (for low power consumption as against back lit light lcd) and an SD card (micro SD) to hold the text files and display each record in three lines on the LCD. It should read a text line from the SD card and display it on the LCD. The device should have 4 switches: power, menu, up and down, LCD display and SD card reader. When the menu button is pressed, the main menu is displayed where all the stored text files are displayed on. I am looking for tidy and shrunk final outcome (like using IC's. PS: I am rookie) along with code possibly using arduino. Give me step by step instruction and i will do the same.
