I have experience of handling and processing data of 100s of millions of records and 100s of GB of volume. Please see below for your questions: >> Is it better to do this on the FTP server (what are the security concerns as well as scripting language used)? Or is it better to post-process using an Excel Macro, for example? Or is it better to put this into a database and access it from there? In this case it would still be necessary to upload this data into a database. Regarding above, I can do this on FTP server as well by database. I can using python or php as scripting language. It is better and very precise solution also secure and very fastly comparable and already merged. In this case, it would still be necessary to upload this data into a database. regarding database there are many ways one to export excel to the DB or add directly to the DB through your forms.
