I currently teach a 4-5 hour in-person course for students wishing to obtain their Texas License to Carry a Handgun. I wish to build a computer based training course that teaches these four modules of instruction aligned with the content I currently have in my PowerPoint course. This course should be available via desktop and mobile. As a scope option, I am open to the idea of a Spanish-language version as well.
Each course will do the following for each student: (a) provide for registration and login for the course, (b) capture identifying information as required for record-keeping purposes, (c) present the course to the student per the parameters indicated below, (d) capture time spent on each module, (e) administer the test, (f) provide instant results of the test for the student, (g) allow review of missed questions, (h) allow for retest during the same session, (i) provide output file to the student, (j) provide output file, student information, etc. to me for record-keeping purposes, and (k) provide immediate feedback opportunity to the students.
Each lettered item above is expanded below:
(a) Registration and login
Create username and password, login, pay for the course (option: link to my Square POS account)
(b) Capture identifying information:
-Last Name
-First Name
-Middle Initial
-Driver License Number - or other ID number
-Issuing state
-Gender
-Birth Date
-Street Address
-City
-State
-ZIP Code
-Email
-Phone
(c) Course
This is a four-module course. The course will be a blend of text and video animation, with an animated or CGI presenter leading the instruction. This animated or CGI presenter should be age-appropriate for adult audiences of 21-70 years old - rather than designing for a children's audience.
The course shall require the student to interact periodically, to ensure they are engaged and not 'letting the course run in the background' while not really paying attention.
There will be 2-3 opportunities during the course for the student to select and print a PDF handout to help them follow the CBT.
Finally, the course should be presented in a format that is editable by me when the content undergoes small changes every two years.
(d) Capture time
State law requires that a certain amount of time be spent on the course. I must report how much time was spent on each of the four modules. There should be a minimum and maximum time allowable for each module to be completed, and the system should track the amount of time spent on each for reporting purposes.
(e) Test
The course will present a 25-question test at the end (a blend of true/false and multiple choice), and capture the score for record-keeping purposes.
(f) Result
Present test results
- % correct
- % incorrect
- results of which questions were correct or incorrect
(g) Review
Allow student to review section of class for each missed question
(h) Retest
Provide the student an opportunity to retest during the session
(i) Output to student
Provide a student with a printable PDF. I will provide you with the blank, fillable PDF form. This form is password controlled, so the system will need to unlock and fill it, then print an unlocked version to share with the student immediately if they pass. The fill data comes from the student information in (b) above, PLUS the system generated completion date of the course, PLUS my signing information (my name, my instructor number, and my digital signature)
(j) Output to me
Filled, locked source PDF
Printed, unlocked PDF
Text file with student information in (b) above, PLUS completion date of the course.
(k) Feedback
Link to my social media site(s)
If I receive an appropriate bid, I will share my source material with you so you can align the CBT appropriately.
