You will be given a selection of images by your instructor, from which you will select one. Look closely at its relationship with other works that are, in one way or another, a bit like it. In your write up, name these other works and establish how your work is similar and how it departs from them. Following this, you will interpret the work. This is the stage at which you take time to reflect on why it is different from other works that are like it, and comment on what this might say about the factors that have caused it to be different, - factors such as new technologies, economic constraints, the author’s intentions and the politics of the time. Finally you will evaluate the work by looking into what people have said about the contribution this work has made to the discipline to which it belongs, as well as why it is important to society more widely.
