The goal of the project is to give you more technical design experience by using knowledge/skills from the class for solving healthcare problems. You may choose to concentrate on a specific relevant technology or area (drug interactions in pharmacy) or you may choose a topic that is more general (data archiving). You should choose an area of interest to you since it will help you build domain knowledge in that area, as well computer skills. Applications can by hypothetical, but real-world problems are always preferable. Scope of the Project: Any design should be based on a problem statement, requirement specification, analysis, data solution methodology and final conclusion. Use of tools like Microsoft Office have easy access, because of their availability and their functionality as an aid in implementing computer projects, but you are not limited to MS Office. Relevancy and applicability to a real problem are important. The design should include: • Descriptions of the domain: organization, objective of the organization in which the domain resides, description of the operation, etc. • Statement of the problem you are trying to solve and how computer methods may help • Assessment and requirement analysis: why does the organization need to the IT system that you design, the objective of the IT system, problems and constraints, etc. • Requirement specifications: scope and boundaries of the project, management/user requirement specifications. Don’t try to create an entire EHR but be specific with something of interest and relevant. • Components used, if any, of the IT system and detailed descriptions of each component – a component may be a graphic library or voice recognition library etc. • Illustrations on how the IT system will be used by the organization. Project reports explaining the work performed, the findings, and conclusions along with an oral presentation to the class comprise the criterion for grading the project. These reports should contain an abstract, methodology or approach, work performed, results and conclusions. You should do some amount of coding I am not looking for just a term paper, you write plenty of those in undergrad.
