Hi, first of all I can save you *some* time. PHP7.4 will cause issues with some Joomla extensions and templates. PHP 7.3 is still the platform on which you should base Joomla 3.9.x for now. Depending upon the age of the template, then any version of PHP7.3 will work with all Joomla extensions I have so far tested. So, I agree that your issue it template based. A full solution would be the transfer of your site to a more modern layout. I can do this for you using Gantry5 but, in order to fully assess what is required then a working url of the current site would be of great help. Depending on the complexity of the site and current layout I may be able to do this for your site in situ.
