AWS OpenVPN Routing Assistance

Hi, I need some assistance with AWS and the setup of routing between EC2 and Open VPN Server clients. I have attempted this but as soon as I turn off NAT in OpenVPN everything stops working.
Setup I want is..
SQL Server EC2 Instance on a Private Subnet
OpenVPN Access Server on a Public Subnet
Clients Connected to OpenVPN Access Server (My Laptop for example)
I want to be able to connect my Open VPN client on my laptop to the Access Server. Be able to connect to the SQL instance on the Private Subnet (RDP). I also want the SQL Server to be able to be able to connect back to my laptop via the OpenVPN Client software.
I hope that makes sense. Basically once connected to the VPN I want a bi directional connection.
