Fix non-friendly URL issue - Joomla

Currently SEF Friendly URLs are not enabled. .htaccess is present. So, obviously, at this time, SEF Friendly URLs do NOT show.
If I enable SEF Friendly, most URLs work correctly. However, category blog URLs do not. For instance [login to view URL] is Home | OUTDOOR & ADVENTURE | BEACHES. However, if you click one of the read mores the URLs revert to SEF Friendly.
However, there's another issue. If SEF Friendly are enabled, once you click a read more all images outside of the main content area disappear (for example, in the header). On checking the path, instead of being images/[login to view URL] (for the Facebook icon in the top bar) the categories get inserted into the path so it becomes outdoor-adventure/beaches/images/fb.png.
I believe they will be related, but I just can't figure out where the problem is. I used a component called Form2Content Lite so that my client could enter the articles and have them all appear on a consistent layout. It has worked well for this. What hasn't worked so well at times - causing layout issues at category blog view, is him inserting a bunch of inline styling without really knowing what he's doing. Plus, initially, copying and pasting from Word or other websites directly. Had to do some major code deleting a few times because of that. However, I don't know if that's necessarily the issue. Seems more likely it's somewhere in the categories.
NOTE: Getting this fixed is extremely important. By bidding on the project you guarantee that, should you be awarded the project you can, and will, make the necessary edits to fix the issue.
