Grayscale filter for Wordpress Images. Colorful on hover

I want to display all images on my homepage in grayscale and when the customer moves the mouse over the image it should switch to colorful.
The change must be update stable. custom css or javascript is possible.

default Grey - and on hover = colorful. yes possible. we can do it. but let me tell you in safari browser this is not working.
