Hi. I plugged in your values into the R package, grpreg, and it zeroed 4 of the 18 columns. I'm not sure if column 2 in your x_train is a grouping vector, but just to get an idea of the problem size, I included it as part of the Design matrix, and simply put each column into its own group. Perhaps you will send a separate vector as a grouping vector, or maybe you have a different idea how to generate it. Anyhow, let me know if you are interested in employing me to do the task.
