The Museum of Modern Art Offers Many Free Activities
The Museum of Modern Art (11 West 53 Street) is the most influential modern art museum in the world and offers patrons some of the best travelling art exhibits, permanent installations, photography, illustrated books, and independent film screenings currently available. Originally opened in 1929 after the stock market crash, MOMA didn’t find a permanent home in mid-Manhattan until 2004.
Artists include such famous names as Monet, Picasso, Georges-Pierre Seurat, Matisse, Edward Hopper, and too many other famous artists and pieces of modern art to mention. Admission is free on Friday nights from 4:00 to 8:00Pm and includes admission to all galleries and film screenings. For these Friday nights, sponsored by the casualwear fashion company UNIQLO, there are no advance reservations.
Also, available free of charge from 9:00 until 10:30 AM every day is the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden with a new installation entitled “The Monument” - which includes diverse works from Picasso and Matisse along with others. If you have any other information regarding MoMA, please leave a comment.
