Actor Requirement Description Comments
User Must be able to deposit clean waste (soiled toilet paper, sanitary napkins etc.)
User Must not use hands to open or close the receptacle.
User Must not smell the previously deposited clean waste when the receptacle is opened and closed (except when emptied).
User Must be able to remove clean waste in a trash bag.
Receptacle Must not absorb odors from the clean waste deposits
Receptacle Must fit discreetly and compactly beside (not in front of, etc.) a toilet
Receptacle Must provide a deodorizing mechanism for odor control
Receptacle Must be able to use standard 4 gallons (9 in. x 8 in. x 18 in.) or 8-gallon trash bag (20.5 in. x 20 in. x 0.69 MIL) If a longer slimmer profile is used, then an 8-gallon bag may be appropriate.
Receptacle Must be able to function in the atmosphere of moisture and humidity typical like that experienced during and after a shower.
Operational between 50 and 90 degrees F.
Receptacle Functionality must not be affected by urine splash or dried urine, cleaning chemicals, etc.
Receptacle Must be able to support the load of a typical 8-gallon trash can. I’m not sure how this quantity should be represented or if this is needed.
Must be rigid, not flexible
Receptacle Opaque color
Receptacle Must meet all agency (UL, FDA) requirements.
