Custom Teacher's Font

I'm a teacher. I need to be able to paste or insert characters that aren't part of the normal fonts such as Ariel and use them as part of the normal Ariel font within Microsoft Office products such as Excel and Word. I need someone to edit the Ariel font to add such things as a checkmark, an elegant "X", a checkbox alone and with and without checkmarks and X's, star, heart, happy & sad face, bullet-dot, diamond, and maybe more. The characters must behave like the other letters in the font and be able to be coloured, shrink or grow, italics & bold, etc. They probably have to be drawn larger than the other characters. In my experience these characters created from other fonts like Wingdings and Symbol font are too small and need to be enlarged.
