I have more than 4 years experience working as a Freelance Technical Editor. I have also been working as a Scientific Writer in Life Sciences for many years now. I have been pursuing these as a hobby till now. However, now, they have taken the centre stage from my successful research career, and I am quite loving it!

Freelance Scientific Editor and Consultant

Dec 2016

• Involved in the writing and editing of scientific documents. • Consulted on the design and execution of scientific projects.

Research Associate

Jan 2016 - Sep 2016 (8 months)

• Worked on a genome-wide siRNA screen to identify cellular factors that can override G1 arrest brought upon by prolonged mitotic arrest in the presence of antimitotics. • Was involved in studying mitotic slippage in the presence of antimitotics in RPE, HeLa and HL60 cell lines. • Responsible for keeping track of the budget and purchasing laboratory consumables. • Laboratory safety representative,

Freelance Scientific Editor

Nov 2014 - Dec 2015 (1 year)

• Involved in the writing and editing of scientific manuscripts. • Edited and re-wrote manuscripts, which were accepted in peer-reviewed journals.

Project Officer

Mar 2014 - Oct 2014 (7 months)

Worked on the development of a cell-based high throughput assay to screen for novel inhibitors of Human papillomavirus (HPV). I proposed the assay, developed the various assay components and validated the assay. • Was involved in the molecular cloning, epitope tagging and site-directed mutagenesis • Supervised a Masters student on her project on the effect of plumbagin on cervical cancer cell lines. • Was involved in laboratory management.

Thermosensitive ion channel expressed in the sperm of a fresh water teleost fish

In this paper, we demonstrate the endogenous presence of one specific thermosensitive ion channel, namely Transient Receptor Potential Vanilloid family member subtype 1 (TRPV1) in the sperm cells collected from freshwater teleost fish, Labeo rohita. By using western blot analysis, fluorescence assisted cell sorting (FACS) and confocal microscopy; we confirm the presence of this non-selective cation channel.

Protocol for a mammalian cell-based assay for monitoring HIV-1 protease activity

In our laboratory, we have developed an assay in T-cells with a robust read-out to monitor the proteolytic activity of HIV-1 Protease (PR). The assay utilizes the prototypic transcription factor Gal4, which consists of the N-terminal DNA-binding domain and the C-terminal trans-activation domain. The assay is based upon (1) introduction of PR in between the two Gal4 domains to obtain a PR/Gal4 fusion protein and (2) utilization of the enhanced Green Fluorescent Protein as reporter of PR activity.
