A logo for Chisel & Grind Coffee.

We will upgrade to guaranteed and sealed when there is at least one entry that comes close to what we are looking for.

The logo will have a rustic feel and we will most likely choose a logo that incorporates an image/icon that reflects the elements in our name: "Chisel" and "Grind." We do NOT want stock images or just a coffee cup. We're looking for something unique that reflects who we are. PLEASE REVIEW ATTACHED DOCUMENTS.

We definitely want to see some concept of a chisel and "grind" in the logo. A chisel is an artist's tool that is used to transform a block of marble into a statue. (reflecting both creativity and the positive change we want to bring to our community). "Grind" could be reflected by coffee grounds or a coffee grinder or some other image to reflect the concept (reflecting both the ground up coffee and also hard work).

About purely text logos: We are unlikely to accept a logo that is text only. We are really hoping to see some type of icon/image that depicts "Chisel" and "Grind" graphically.

Chisel and Grind Coffee: What's in a name?
The name "Chisel and Grind Coffee" was chosen because of the significance and double meaning in the 2 words "Chisel" and "Grind."

Chisel: 1) A chisel is the tool of an artist and represents the creativity and craftsmanship we intend to bring to the crafting and presentation of each drink and product we serve. We will serve everything from creative cold brew coffee concoctions to cocktail-inspired lattes (and of course we'll offer standard espresso coffee drinks with a flair!), and our goal will be to make coffee memorable in both its flavor and presentation. However...

2) a chisel is also a tool of transformation. It's the sculptor's instrument for transforming a run-of-the-mill block of marble into a breath-taking masterpiece! In the same way, we want Chisel and Grind Coffee to be an agent of transformation in our community--bringing about the blossoming and thriving of our community to its fullest potential.

Grind: 1) Probably the most straightforward way to understand this word as a reference to the coffee process. We're all about that COFFEE LIFE!! So take those beans and grind them into something special! Release the aroma!! Extract that flavor!!! However...

2) "grind" is also a common colloquial reference to hard work. And at Chisel and Grind Coffee we value hard work and productivity! We want Chisel and Grind Coffee to be a place where people come to get the hard work done. We want to be ground zero for teamwork and productivity! We know many people like to work at coffee shops, and we want to be especially helpful at facilitating that work. We want people to come in and know that they can stay for hours and "grind" out the hard work and know that we are "grinding" for them too!

NOTE: On this last point, we realize that COVID-19 has created a change in our culture where many more people are now working remotely. Part of our vision is to use our space (or part of it) to particularly cater to the remote workforce and provide the space and tools they may need to help fuel their productivity.

    We have decided to use the star ratings to show which designs we are most interested in at present. We will keep a maximum of 30 or so entries active, and will provide feedback and ratings for those 30 entries.       I believe the rule is being followed, but if you are aware of a violation of the rule, please definitely report it. Our goal is to have a logo that is our own and memorable and not something that appears to be stock images or clip art.

    I do have a couple of questions for you who are participating.

    1) I have avoided using star ratings because some of the designs are excellent quality, but not what we are looking for, so I'm unsure how to rate them. I could rate based on what we're looking for (which is probably most helpful), but that would mean that good designs that don't match what we are looking for would not get high ratings. Would you want this?

    2) I'm thinking about upgrading to sealed entries. However, I had hoped that seeing other entries would be helpful. However, I'd like to hear from you artists. Should I seal the contest already?

    We are not quite ready to go to guaranteed, but we feel we're getting close.
