We are a non-profit organization that needs a logo for use on letterhead, clothing and potentially on the sail of our expedition sailboat. Our expedition will search for the presence of Norse exploration in Northern Canada. Our expedition is called Fara Heim which is old Norse for "going home". Our ancestors were Norse explorers that travelled from Iceland to Canada in 1000AD, settled for 10 years and then returned to Iceland when they decided they couldn't stay there.
The design must incorporate the Norse mythological creatures Huginn and Muninn which were two ravens that were sent out each morning by the god Odin to see what was going on. Huginn was thought and Muninn was memory. Ravens were used by Norse/Viking sailors to know if they were near land. If the raven flew back to where the boat had come from they knew there was land behind them, if the raven flew forward there was land ahead of them and if the raven came back there was no land near.
In Icelandic history the raven was used by the Norse explorers to find Iceland and other new lands so the raven connects myth and history. As a symbol of our expedition it is a connection to our forefathers as we search for them.
Design requirements:
1. Simple, one color line drawing that minimizes embroidery cost on logo gear (polo shirt, jackets, stickers) and manufacture of a sail.
2. Must incorporate the two ravens.
3. Deliverable must be a high resolution digital graphic.
4. All design copyrights will be transferred to the expedition.
