adding some code to child theme functions file

I am working on a child theme and I need to have it translated ( in this case it is actually from English to English but with some modifications on the po file).

To translate the theme I just need to add a small piece of code to the functions file on the child theme with "load_child_theme" and "add_action" , a very simple task that should not take more than 10 minutes to complete but I do not why I am getting stuck with it and I would prefer to have someone looking into it instead of wasting more time.
