Create a PHP webpage to display content in columns like a newspaper

I need a web page that will pull a list of events that are in a MySQL database. The first page needs to display all events for a selected date range. On this page I need a check box next to each event. All check boxes should be checked by default. Then, I want to be able to uncheck the events that I do NOT want to go to the final print. By unchecking them, a field in the database should be updated so that they are not part of the final group of events for print. After selecting the items for print, the next page should display the calendar of events in a 6 column newspaper format. What I mean by that is that the events should start in column 1 (top left) with the first date, then list events for that date down the first column and then start on the second column. When all events for that day are finish, a new date is entered and events for that date continue from where the others left off. All days and events continue in this method until complete.

Finally, when the page is displaying as it should be, I need to be able to export the layout as a pdf so that I can print it.

It is important to be able to change the layout size in case my page size changes. I need to be able to change the number of columns as well, if needed later.

Once we get started I can provide a sample data set to work with.
