This case study discusses the design and implementation of an open source program package that allows for the federation of a potentially indefinite number of native XML databases(NXD) to form one virtual NXD. The resulting recursive structure is highly scalable as a virtual NXD is treated as any other NXD and thus can be combined with other virtual NXDs.
