Internet of things (IoT)
Internet of things (IoT) is a revolutionary concept of information exchange among the objects. Although, the term IoT was coined in 1999 by Kevin Ashton while presenting RFID technology for Procter and Gamble but wasn’t widely popular until 2010 when Google used it for Street View service and Chinese government made IoT a priority in their next five-year plan. Then in 2014, IoT took a big leap and got mass awareness with Google’s announcement to buy Nest for $2.3 billion in Jan 2014. IoT basically uses embedded sensors and actuators in the objects to connect them and enable information exchange from otherwise inaccessible places. It covers a wide range of techniques; machine to machine linking and industrial internet are merely subsets of IoT.
