Identification of volatile components of gel-pen inks through gas chromatography-mass spectrometry
Forensic Chemsitry
This study analyzed and identified the volatile components of 90 colored gel-pen inks of Indian origin through GC–MS. Approximately 245 components were identified and classified into a wide range of categories such as alcohols, aldehyde and ketone, esters, ethers, hydrocarbon, and miscellaneous; this categorization reduced the risk of false matches during comparison. Few components were found to be common in all ink colors, whereas some components were color-specific.
Differentiation of Red and Black Ballpoint Pen Inks using HPTLC and GC-MS
Arab Journal of Forensic Sciences & Forensic Medicine
The present study aims to analyse the red and black ballpoint pen inks using HPTLC and GC-MS techniques. All samples have been completely differentiated using high performance thin layer chromatography. The discrimination potential of gas chromatography mass spectrometry for red and black ballpoint pen inks was found to be 32.85% and 63.58% respectively. The validity of technique was tested in terms of repeatability and reproducibility.
DIFFERENTIATION OF GEL PEN INKS BY USING HPTLC AND GC-MS
Department of Chemistry Malaysia, Royal Malaysian Police Force and Universiti Sains Malaysia
The present study aims to distinguish the blue, black, red and green gel pen inks on the basis of their chemical constituents using HPTLC and GC-MS. The results obtained from Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry found to be more discriminating than High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography. The major advantage of present study is limited damage caused to the document.
