I need to create a Windows software that will "mimic" an existing one, but with my own source code and my language of choice which is VB.NET.
The software to mimic is to be found and free to use, downloadable from its website.
**What it does is build up a database of every single file in a disk drive, and every folder too.**
**Plus the NTFS is then monitored in the background, so that every change is reflected in the DB.**
With this software, **search for a file is blazingly fast!** It can find files from a search string a la "like '%xyz%' in less than a second from 300000 existing files!!!
Why I need this is because the UI not suiting my needs, so I would rather create my own software.
Your mission will be:
1 - Give the existing software a try
2 - Find out how possibly it can be that fast
3 - Create the core module as a VB.NET class (dll) (Or c# and I'll translate it to VB).
4 - Make that class callable from outside with public methods and variables.
It has only one GUI window.
