A simple project to develop hardware & firmware for a triac based starting ramp controller. This project will provide basic hardware elements as a starting point. The Developer will have input into final hardware layout including the selection of Microcontroller to aid swift project completion. Project Condition 1. LOW COST/SIMPLE hardware requirement 2. Microchip microcontroller preferred but will consider Arduino 3. A mixture of resistive/Inductive loads to start 4. Swift completion of the project a must Basic Operation outline, 1. Energise PCB --> zero output LOAD voltage 2. Add Start delay 3. Check supply voltage to ensure the minimum level is met 4. Start Ramp at 50% supply voltage 5. Ramp up the voltage to 100% over time XXXms 6. Once at 100% voltage, engage bypass relay & turn off triac. 7. If supply voltage below min level, turn off the relay and restart. Triac control I have not put too much detail into this element and as this project would be suited for individuals who have worked with triac’s in the past. Either an interrupt driven firing pulse train or ZC --> delay method would be suitable. In any case, a pulse train is required to conserve power from psu. Timescales Shorter the better as this is not a very complicated project for the right individual.

I have checked the schematic and understood the process to start a soft load. I will use an Arduino UNO board for this project and will write necessary code by using Arduino IDE. We will need a simple PCB to hold a Triac, a Relay Switch, an Optocupler and a 12v power supply. If you want to implement the PIC schematic then we need to design a PCB and write code for PIC. It is also possible. 15+ years of experience on Computer Language and Digital Electronics.

Hi Sir, I want take this task, i have done this kind of project in the past for SCR and TRIACS. I wil use a microchip microcontroller and consider all your requiriments on final design such as the voltage sensing level, flow chart requirements, also the relay bypass when ramp is finished and others. Hi, I'm Ganapathy Specialized in embedded system development, I can develop softwares for PIC,AVR,ARM in C and ASM Regarding this project - Soft start for an AC load I will write in PIC12F675 controller, Interrupt driven, ZC detection method for development. KiCAD or Proteus for PCB layout or specify any other you want from the details you provided I assume the following - PIC12F675 controller - MOC 3020 for triac BTA16B(I have experience in MOC3020 and BT136) - Relay - LED indicator, - Capacitive power supply everything is crystal clear, i can start work immediately finish it in a day or 2 (worst case) what compiler you need MPLAB, MikroC, CCS ? Assembly or C language ?
