Cross-browser-extension with basic functionality for web annotation

The goal of this project is the modification of an existing rudimentary version of a Chrome browser extension for web annotation into a cross-browser-extension with enhanced functionality. The browser extension identifies electronic articles or publications at websites based on their unique DOIs (Digital Object Identifier) and displays information for these articles from an external database by web annotation. The following functionality is a minimum requirement: - Search for DOIs at any website - Search for data related to the found DOIs in an external database - Display information from external database either "in-line" through real website annotation or - Display information from external database in a sidebar window After successful completion of the project, follow-up projects are very likely. Die Browser-Extension soll in der Lage sein, elektronische Artikel oder Publikationen anhand ihrer eindeutigen DOI (Digital Object Identifier) auf Webseiten zu erkennen, Informationen für die erkannten Artikel aus einer externen Datenbank abzurufen und mittels Web-Annotation darzustellen.
