Access Data maintenance forms

In an Access table are 10 - 15 fields. I want a bound continue form (select) with 4 or 5 fields and a link to an unbound form that is used for editing the selected record. When on the unbound form the save button is clicked not only the record is saved but also a log is written to a logfile. Both forms need to be international usable (all labels, error messages, tooltip hints etc), the method used to accomplish this is up to the developer. This will be standard procedure is many of my applications, so I will give several developers the same assignment (with other tables that is). The developer with the best solution will receive future assignments. Addition 06-04-2004: I will try to answer all questions in this addition: This assignment is not a stand alone application, it will be part of an application I am developing myself. The work performed will be copied and pasted into my own application. This assignment is also "to get my feet wet" in leaving work to others, for until now I always developed my applications fully by myself. I have a possibility to contract more work, but I want to test if I can subcontract this succesfully before I accept the work. Your questions learn me I have to clarify better so you can deliver better answers. Internationalisation The final program will be used in several (European) countries. A frenchman needs to get the same forms and reports as the dutch, but all labels etc have to be french. The way I do it is to have a table with the labelnames and the descriptions in several languages. In the on-load event of the form the descriptions of the users language are loaded. If you have another solution that is fine with me, as long as maintainance is possible. (I once had to work with a bad translated application, and the translations were hard coded). Access 97 The application has to run on the computers of many companies. I've found Access 97 is still used widespread, and it is also my own preffered version. If the user has another version of Access I deliver the full application in that version, if the user has no Access I deliver a 97 run time with the applicaion. ## Deliverables 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables): a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment. b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement). 4 Code must be delivered in an Access 97 MDB. All code for both forms must be in one module. The code must be developed in english version of Access 97. Additions April 6: Log Table I use a simple (I think) approach to the log table: to an empty copy of the data file every edited record will be written with its old values, together with currentuser (I use user-level-security) and a timestamp. Most of you suggest an external ASCII file, which is fine with me, but I think that will give more complications for the developer. There is no user interface necessary for these log files. If any problems arise I ask the user to send me the log files and I check them myself. Environment My final application has to run on everything from W95 to XP-Pro. My developements in Access 97 on a windows ME machine has never caused any headaches in this aspect. Please leave the complicated NT stuff for the large companies. User audience For my final application the user audience will be small (1) to medium sized (20) companies, without much computer knowledge so i have to keep the user interface simple and robust. Skill level I would like to hire people who are better programmers than me. Bidders who attach a (very) small sample of their work have therefore an advantage, although I will also look at ratings from previous assignments. I will wait till april 8 before i give to 2 or 3 developers an assignment. ## Platform Access version 97 and up
