I am very experienced in K2 (my favorite Joomla component) and in Gavick (Gavern) framework as I have been their customer for years. As I can understand the task you want to load more than 4 articles in a page, it could happen on a template override and custom JS (AJAX) . I don't know if it is a good idea to do it automatikally, the best way for the speed is to add a button Load more to load more articles without reloading the page.
