Modify how a drop down functions

I have a form with a drop down. There are 5 scenarios that the drop down will get filled with something. If user has not requested to be in contest, it says not in pool (WORKING). If user is eliminated from the pool because of a previous wrong choice, it shows eliminated PARTIALLY WORKING). If the users selection is past the cutoff date, it becomes read only and shows their selection (WORKING). That part is fine. The last 2 possible options are the user made a selection and wants to change it based on remaining values, or the user has not made a choice and they want to now make a choice based on remaining values. The issue I am having is that, although I can show what the remaining values are, it is showing blanks rows in the drop down for values they cannot select. When I print the remaining values, it shows correctly. Also, the configuration is to be based on a week by week setting. So if a user made a wrong selection in week 4, their sections would still be visible for that week and in the previous weeks, but future weeks would show "Eliminated". This is based on a football script contest called "Survivor"
