This project explores the implementation of database systems through modern DBMS (DataBase Management Systems), the SQL (Structured Query Language) and database connectivity APIs (Application Programming Interfaces). The project continues by exploring the managerial considerations of large-scale database systems as well as the emergent fields of BI (Business Intelligence) and Data Analytics. This project thusly represents the logical follow-on to NQF4’s Data Modelling module. Project Specifics: Part 1's focus: The ANSI-SPARC Architecture, where ANSI-SPARC stands for American National Standards Institute, Standards Planning And Requirements Committee, is an abstract design standard for a Database Management System (DBMS). The architecture has three distinct layers in its description and design. Most modern commercial database systems are based on this architecture. Part 2's focus: This section relates to administrating a database (you have ADMIN rights). You are to assume the tables ‘customer’ and ‘staff’ exist within a database named ‘companydb’ and are populated with data. The users ‘smith’, ‘jones’ and ‘clear’ exist but have no current privileges, all activities are undertaken in one ADMIN session. These technologies and functions are often referred to as information management systems.
