Build a Wireless Sensor Network

My proposed solution is: the Arduino Due boards will communicate to one another using WiFi provided by the NodeMCU (ESP8266) modules. Every 20ms (i.e. 50 messages per second), the master will perform an UDP broadcast of data (4 bytes length) to all the slaves which are connected to the same Wifi router with the master. In fact, the WSN can be built with only NodeMCU modules and no need the Arduino Due. Another option cab be - the master will be Arduino Due + 1 NodeMCU and all 17 slaves are the NodeMCU only. Assumptions: 1. The cost in this bid does not include the cost for parts, modules and shipping. 2. The software for this project just broadcast 4 dummy bytes to the slave. The source code will be provided so the employers can modify to send real data.

If you dont have any specific reason to use Arduino Due, then my suggestion would be to use Linux single board computer as the central hub and Wifi device (with an MCU if needed) at the slave sides. If you use readily available modules, then the product cost will be less than $300-400 and may be even less than that. Whats the maximum distance between master and the slaves ?

Please provide max distance between master slave, power consumption of slave, if there is restrictions. I have designed extensive sensor networks long before 'sensor network' became a generic terminology.

I've searched a bit on the interwebs and found some links for you. For 20 internet capable arduino due with wifi shield, the cost will be approximate 500$. Extra sensors my cost extra. The system will communicate via wifi, so speed is not a problem. Also you can receive from the master node the data via wifi. Depending on what you want, the bid is negotiable. Hello I'm an electronics engineer with 10+ years of experience and I would suggest using ESP8266 instead. It costs $3, has WiFi on board an can be programmed using Arduino IDE. It can work as a server if you wish. Or any computer or server on the WiFi network can control all the slaves. If you insist, the project can be implemented on Arduino as well.
