First, I am NEW TO LINUX!
Next, this has the "possiblity" of several projects to follow, so please be prepared if you provide good direction with successful results in a timely manner, we could work for several hours together.
I have Multiple VMs for 15 days using VMWorkstation (Windows 2003 Server, RedHat, CentOS and BackTrack 4)
I am looking for the following training - THIS WEEKEND if possible, as I am taking related tests next couple weeks.
At this time, I am trying to self train/learn the "Priviledge Escalation" method, related to my VM Test Lab.
Scenario we will work on immediately, what I know:
VM = RedHat
Kernel = 2.4.20
Have Console login, with LIMITED account priviledges
Objective :
(what YOU will train me on and provide assistance for);
1. Locate a/some Kernel Exploit(s) that provides/converts NON root privs to root priv (i.e. do_brk, ptrace, etc)
2. Train on Locating Methods (what i need to know/understand
3. Train on Compling/Installing/Running this exploit
4. Prefer success of course, but not required....
For someone who knows what they are doing, I suspect this to be a 10-15min project...but, teaching me, likely a 1-2hr project I think.
I am not sure a Compiler exists on the VM either.
Or one that will work!
I see on there -
compat-gcc-c++
compat-gcc
libgcc
