We need a server side page (for example in jsp/php) which does the following. It contains two components (similar to frames but not necessarily so), which are:
1. A small panel with a text box (in which url is displayed) and a go button. This resembles what comes in built in browsers, wherein users enter the url and press enter or press the "Go" button to go to the webpage.
2. This panel displays the webpage. IMPORTANT: When the user navigates to another page from the given page, the text box in panel (1) should display the new URL.
Note that this project does not simply involve writing of two frames and opening the entered URL in the big frame. This is because when the user navigates to a new url on the big frame, there is no way for the small frame on top to know what the new URL is.
Our proposal for handling this is the following:
Suppose our website is [login to view URL]
Then write a file [login to view URL] such that if I go to:
[login to view URL]://[login to view URL], then it opens a top panel with the URL=[login to view URL] and in the other panel it has the yahoo homepage with the outlinks of the page changed (using a client side AJAX call). Suppose the page has an outlink like:
<a href="[login to view URL]> then the client side script
should change it to:
<a href="[login to view URL]://[login to view URL]>
Likewise if there is a relative path from the yahoo page such as:
<a href="[login to view URL]>, this should be changed to:
<a href="[login to view URL]://[login to view URL]>
Note that we would like to do the page fetching and link reversal
using say javascript on the client side, as opposed to loading our
server with that request.
We are open to suggestions of other ways to handle this problem.
