SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE GAMBLING
PROJECT SPECIFICATION
PART 1: INTRODUCTIONS
We thought of a cool gambling site. This document is the specification for the site. It is divided into three main sections. The first section describes what kind of person we are looking for. We don’t want to waste time – either yours or ours. So, read it, and if you are unsure if you qualify, move along. If this sounds like something you can knock out of the park, keep reading.
The second part gives an overview of the concept. It should give you an idea of the scope of work, as well as how all the pieces fit together at a high level. Once you are familiar with that, the second section breaks down the project on a page by page basis, explaining the functionality we would like to see.
ABOUT YOU
If you are reading this document, then you are competing with other people for the rights to develop this project. If you are not great at what you do, stop reading now. We have no desire to work with someone mediocre at their job. If your only competitive edge is that you are the cheapest developer or shop around, you can stop reading here also.
First and foremost, we want cool people that are great at what they do and that enjoy working on fun projects. There is a large potential for future and ongoing work here, and we want someone or some team we can build a relationship with.
SKILL SET
We don’t have a rigorous list of must-haves in terms of skill set. If you read this document and think you can build this site, make a bid. Off the top, your skill set should include things like:
- Web Development
o Server Side: PHP or ColdFusion
o Client Side: Jquery, Javascript, CSS
- Application Architecture
- Database Design
- Social Integration, Especially with Facebook
Graphic design skills are optional. Most programmers suck at graphic design, so we will probably engage a designer. But, if you are good at slicing up graphics or creating HTML from PSD’s, let us know in your bid.
We have also left open the schema design so that it can be easier for you to approach it how you like. If you are unfamiliar with databases, we can take this on in house as well.
Code samples are required to be considered for this project.
PART 2: OVERVIEW
Here is the concept: this site mixes gambling and charities. People make bets. If they win the bet, they get money. If they lose the bet, the charity gets money.
As such, the site caters to these groups of people:
1. Charities
2. Gamblers
3. People watching 1 & 2
