Editing of jquery fullcalendar using internal functions and data

I have a project which is nearly complete but has some scheduling events built into it which need to be recoded to harness the wonderful fullcalendar jquery plugin . Basically the project is broken down into two main requirements. 1. I need to have an option menu which, when an option is selected, will then load the data into the calendar using the eventrender or renrender option. The events loaded into the calendar then need to be clickable to launch a modal with will then allow the user to "book" the slot clicked on - this will then close the modal and render the event color as green background to signify a "booked" event, other default events will be in a paler green 2. I need to try and speed up the loading of the event function as it seems to take quite some time to render the numerous events I have in the system so any advice on this grateful There will be other tasks for this project and I really want someone with a great knowledge of jquery/ajax and fullcalendar as well. I want to hardness the functions of fullcalendar as well - I really don't want to have to see self-posting pages to reload the calendar, there are many many internal functions in the fullcalendar plugin to handle event rerendering, I just don't know how to create them!
