The purpose of this assignment is to develop your knowledge of heaps and compare practical performance of Fibonacci heaps and binary heaps. To gain more knowledge of amortized runtimes, for algorithms and data structures. Fibonacci heaps have excellent amortized runtimes for their operation – in theory. In practice, the overhead for all the pointer gymnastics renders them slower than standard binary heaps. A Fibonacci heap is a heap data structure consisting of a forest of trees. It has a better amortized running time than a binary heap. Fibonacci heaps were developed by Micheal L. Fredman and Robert E. Tarjan in 1984 and first published in a scientific journal in 1987. The name of Fibonacci heap comes from Fibonacci numbers which are used in the running time analysis. This assignment requires you to learn the Fibonacci heap, and compare it with binary heaps.
